Xylosma congestum ‘Compacta’ is a great shrub to us a a background in the landscape.  It has a mature height from 6-7 feet tall and wide.  Compact Shiny Xylosm is one of the more versitile plants; it's evergreen, drought tolerant, can being planted in sun or shade, and has attractive glossy green pointed ovate leaves.  And if that's not enough, it's deer and fire resistant!  It can be used as a hedge or left unpruned will take on a nice mounded shape.  USDA Zones 8-11.
