Punica granatum 'Nana' is a dwarf version of the Pomegranate tree with slightly smaller fruit. However, it's mainly grown for it's ornamental characteristics as the Pomegranates are a little bitter. Dwarf Pomegranate will get about 3 to 4 feet tall by 4 to 5 feet wide. Small trumpet shaped orange flowers appear in Spring and give way to small 2 to 3 inch fruit which gives the plant some great Winter interest. It can be used as a single specamin or in a line to form a low hedge. Plant in full sun for best flowering and fruiting. Use a nice soil mix when planting and make sure there is proper drainage. Hardy to about 15 deg. F, this plant can withstand some cold temps! Dwarf Pomegranate also does very well through periods of drought, and it's fairly low maintenance. Native to Asia. USDA Zones 7-11.
