Mexican Cardinal
Lobelia Laxiflora
The Mexican Cardinal plant is a beautiful shrubs with narrow leaves and long trumpet-like red and yellow multicolored flowers. This plant spreads by underground rhizomes so give it plenty of space to "branch" out. It can be grown as a single specimen plant or if planted in a swale will form a taller growing ground cover. Cut back in the Winter to keep the foliage coming back tight and dense to prevent leggy woody undergrowth. Very drought tolerant but will also do well with regular watering. Lobelia Laxiflora will thrive in sun or shade. Native to Mexico. Plant may contain toxins.
