Liquidambar is a large deciduous tree widely used in California as a street tree and for large estates and commercial properties. It gives nice Fall color and provides a nice large scale when planted next to taller structures as it will reach heights of 75 feet or taller. Easy to grow and tolerates many soil types. The growth habbit it typically more upright and columnar in form but with age it will take on a wider rounded canopy. This tree does pose a maintenance issue in the Fall as it drops hundred of small rounded pokey pods which can be hazardous in walking areas. Sweet Gum is deer and rabit tolerant.
